GEEKHOM Decorative String Lights With Remote
|These string lights from Geekhom have several distinct advantages over other string-lights like them. Instead of two thin strands of copper wire running in parallel, this string light has a single thin silver wire. It also comes with an AC adaptor allowing for a more permenant fixture. The silver wire also blends in better being lighter colored and is reflective enough to absorb the ambient colors of its surroundings. Also, the LEDs are set in clear blobs of epoxy/plastic instead of amber.
There is 66 feet of the string lights with 200 tiny warm white LEDs spaced about 4 inches apart. The string wire is 0.92mm thick which is very thin. It’s less than 3/64 of an inch or 0.036 inches to be precise.
The lights come with a small remote with several modes as well as variable speed and brightness functions.
My old string lights were routed around a model boat my wife bought me for my birthday many years ago. They looked cool but because they were battery powered you couldn’t just leave them. And after charging and replacing the batteries a few times it just became simpler to leave them off.
These new lights are AC powered with a short black lead that runs a few feet before the super thin string lights begin. Before I put them on the boat I tested them on the desk to make sure they worked. The last thing you want to do is spend an hour setting up your light rig only to find the lights don’t work or are the wrong color. These give off a nice slightly warm but not vintage orange light. The lights come coiled up in a tight bundle. The string does straighten and is stiff enough to be fairly poseable but 60 feet is a lot and it isn’t too long before you end up in a bit of a tangle. It takes a lot of patience to route these precisely. I did my best and when I turned them on was very pleased.
In Use
After installing the lights, I placed the boat around the wrap around corner window of the living room. The small remote that comes with these lights works very well. The seller states that they use updated RF technology for the remote and I noticed that it is more responsive than the cheap remotes that came with other items. The signal is picked up and responds quickly and precisely to presses.
The controls include on/off and variable brightness via + and – buttons, and three presets illumination levels. Then you have mode buttons that change the lighting patterns which are steady or a variety of flashing and breathing patterns whose speed can be changed with the + and – speed buttons.
Conclusion
These are the best string lights of this style I have had thus far. They are a little difficult to route tidily because they are so long. As a result, it took me twice as long as I thought to set them up but the wait was worth it. When I turned them on and started playing with the remote I found the lighting patterns and brightness to be very versatile. The yacht looks great and the combined light of all those small LEDs leaves a pleasant warm glow in the room. Inna really likes them too.
I have tried to make a video to show off the lights but my phone doesn’t really do them justice. They look much better in person.
Disclaimer: I received these lights in exchange for an honest and fair review.
